Welcome to Coloured Cob Equestrian Centre. We are a friendly, approachable and most importantly fun-loving riding school, in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. Our purpose-built riding centre is within easy access of Sheffield, Mansfield and Chesterfield.
Coloured Cob offers riding lessons for beginners to advanced level riders delivered by our highly qualified equestrian coaches. We also offer pony trekking, horse holidays, riding for disabled (we have a hoist too), side saddle, carriage driving, Pony Club, clinics and much more.
’Kindness is the key to our success’ is our motto as we have rehabilitated many rescue ponies and horses. We teach using compassionate methods and have a strict ‘no kicking’ policy.
It was my aim to open a riding school & equestrian centre where compassion and customer service were high on the business agenda. Coloured Cob prides itself on listening to the needs of clients, but also to the needs of the horses. The centre is also steeped in history and the stables and accommodation date back to 1610. Situated on bridleways immediately adjacent to the archaeological beauty spot of Creswell Crags, meaning we are blessed with a beautiful countryside setting. Riders are taught by highly qualified equestrian coaches, who not only have the experience and qualifications to teach the correct aids during your lesson, but also to coach you towards building your confidence, working to goals within your comfort zone and ensuring the health and safety of not only yourself but our horses is absolutely paramount.
You can take part in our friendly and informal clinics, activity days and competitions and even win a rosette! Simply come along, enjoy taking part and having fun.
I’m often asked… why coloured cobs? (this is a breed synonymous with gypsies and associated with pulling carts/carriages and the horses have feathers on their legs)…many years ago, I visited some horse sales and saw these beautiful creatures being sold at a ridiculously low price. I knew then, from the honesty in their eyes, that given the opportunity of a fair chance, you would have a loyal, trusted friend for life. After sometimes holding down three jobs, juggling two children to afford this dream, I finally opened the Coloured Cob Equestrian Centre, I knew that this breed, now very popular as they are recognised for their temperament and versatility, had to be the breed of choice for me. All the horses here have a home for life.
